Common knee problems.
Not sure what’s wrong? That’s exactly what your first appointment is for.
Knee osteoarthritis
Aching, stiffness and swelling, often worse on stairs.
Runner’s knee
Pain around the kneecap (patellofemoral pain), worse squatting or running downhill.
Meniscus tears
Catching, locking or swelling after a twist.
Ligament injuries
ACL or MCL sprains after a twist or impact.
Patellar tendinopathy
Pain just below the kneecap.
Knee trauma and long recoveries
Guidance and rehab through the months after a significant knee injury.
The Knee Package: ‘The Works’.
One pathway, one team, one price: £765.
Initial assessment
We listen to your story, examine your knee and talk through what you want to get back to, with an Advanced Practice Physiotherapist.
Expert imaging
We arrange a scan of your knee and go through the results with you, so you know exactly what’s going on.
Advanced injection
If it’s right for you, a Cingal® or Monovisc® injection in clinic, guided by imaging where needed.
Injection follow-up
We check how your knee is responding and adjust the plan.
First rehab session
A strength and movement plan to make the improvement last, so you can keep building at home.
We only inject if your assessment and scan show it’s the right choice. If it isn’t, we’ll talk you through other options. Further rehab sessions are £50 each.
Which knee injection?
Every injection is matched to your knee and your diagnosis. Both options below are £375, including assessment and follow-up.
Cingal®: hyaluronic acid + steroid
A single 4 ml injection combining a long-acting steroid (triamcinolone hexacetonide) with 88 mg of cross-linked hyaluronic acid. The steroid usually calms pain within the first week; the hyaluronic acid supports the joint for up to 26 weeks. In a randomised trial of 368 people with knee osteoarthritis, it relieved pain better than placebo through 26 weeks (Hangody et al., Cartilage, 2018).
Monovisc®: hyaluronic acid only
A single 4 ml injection of 88 mg hyaluronic acid with no steroid, made by fermentation rather than from animal sources. Relief builds over the first couple of weeks and can last six months or more. A good option if you want to avoid or limit steroid injections.
Who knee injections may suit
- Adults with mild to moderate osteoarthritis of the knee
- Knee pain that hasn’t settled with exercise, rehab and simple painkillers
Possible side effects
Most people have no problems. Some have pain, swelling or stiffness in the joint for a day or two afterwards. Infection is rare. Call us straight away if the area becomes hot, red and increasingly painful, or you feel unwell or feverish. If you have diabetes, a steroid can make your blood sugar run higher for a few days.
Self-help to start with.
- Keep moving, but swap high-impact exercise for cycling or swimming for a while.
- Strengthen your thigh and hip muscles to take load off the knee.
- Ice wrapped in a towel can ease swelling after activity.
- Supportive footwear and a healthy weight both reduce the load on your knees.
“I am 4 months into a long recovery after a nasty knee trauma. Nick has guided me through some tough times. Hopefully back to some normality.”
Knee questions, answered.
Do I need a GP referral?
No. You can book an initial assessment with us directly, online or by phone.
How much does a knee injection cost?
Cingal® and Monovisc® knee injections are £375 each, including your assessment and a follow-up. The Knee Package, with imaging, injection, follow-up and a first rehab session, is £765.
Will I definitely need an injection?
No. Many knee problems improve with the right rehab. We’ll only recommend an injection if your assessment shows it’s likely to help, and we’ll explain the pros and cons first.
Do I need a scan first?
Not always. We’ll tell you at your assessment whether a scan would change your treatment. If it would, we arrange it for you. A knee MRI is £375, and X-ray or ultrasound start from £99.
How long does an injection take?
The injection itself takes a few minutes in clinic, guided by imaging where needed.
